The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods

This year for World Oceans Day, the UN has declared a theme of Life and Livelihoods, to declare intentions of the ongoing challenges to reach the Sustainable Development Goal 14, "Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources", by 2030.
United Nations

Today we recognise, advocate, highlight and act to help slow down global warming, overfishing, industrial coastal developments and pollution. Overconsumption due to the increasing human population and with marine eco-systems declining, our ocean is being threatened more than ever and tackling the climate crisis is becoming a greater challenge.

Did you know?

The ocean covers 70% of the planets oxygen, it is home to most of the earth's biodiversity, and is the main source of protein for more than a billion people around the world... Sadly 90% of big fish populations are depleted, 50% of coral reefs destroyed. This is why we need to protect, preserve and sustain the ocean".

WHAT WE DO

At Cloth & Co. our mission is to find ways to prevent harm and to help protect our planet throughout the entire process, from seed to stitch, from us to you. We care about the people, we care about the planet, we care about what the future holds and we also care about being passionate and active citizens.

Sustainable Fabrics

Natural fibres are at the heart of everything we do; meaning no micro plastics and no harmful chemicals. Our products are timeless and designed to last. We believe one of the greatest impacts we can have is to ensure you can wear our pieces for years not weeks. We source the highest quality materials that are 100% natural, our cotton is organically farmed and we are working on our next steps towards entirely regenerative farming for the future. All of our pieces are biodegradable so that in the end, it can be recycled, repurposed or decomposed ensuring it does not end up in the ocean.

Carbon Offset

Reducing our carbon footprint is something we are working on and to help us offset what we do produce, we have partnered with Ecologi to plant one tree with every purchase to reduce our carbon footprint. One of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to plant trees. They are also crucial to preventing ecological collapse. The Eden Reforestation Projects plant millions of trees around the world each month, and they are currently planting mangroves in Madagascar on our behalf. We currently have 1539 trees in our forest and have reduced 6 tonnes of carbon. Read more on our impact page, click here.

Sustainable Packaging

We have partnered with BetterPackagingCo to ensure all of our packaging is biodegradable and compostable, leaving you without copious amounts of plastic to dispose of. Being mindful of how our decisions impact the environment helps us in building a more sustainable society. If we work together, and continue to make small changes and informed choices, we can minimise the devastating impact of plastic pollution on our planet!

Reducing Fashion Landfill

We have partnered with Upparel to provide you with a solution to limit fashion landfill and to reward you with a Cloth & Co. gift voucher.

Upparel offer a circular fashion model to save on our individual landfill waste. Providing an actionable solution to reusing and recycling garments, Upparel are helping us achieve actionable measures towards tackling the climate crisis.
To date, Upparel have saved an incredible 1,747,768 items from landfill, made up of clothing, linen and shoes. This impact has saved 883,921kg of greenhouse gases polluting the atmosphere.

NEW INNOVATIONS

Did you know, seaweed helps reverse global warming?

Seaweed grows at a rate of 30 to 60 times faster than land-based plants and it 'eats' carbon. The Australian Seaweed Institute is developing a transformational technology for seaweed to protect The Great Barrier Reef. This will help to reduce the nitrogen and carbon dioxide that are severely damaging ecosystems.
