The Women Behind the Cloth

In a small workshop in South Delhi, the hum of sewing machines blends with laughter and the rhythm of women’s voices.
Here, among soft folds of cotton and linen, garments are stitched slowly — not just by hand, but with heart.
Every piece begins as an opportunity. Every thread carries a story.

OUR PARTNERSHIP

Women Fibre To Fashion was founded in 2018 by Ravi Kumar and Sudha Singh, following years of work through the SEWA Shram Shakti Foundation.

Located opposite one of Delhi’s most densely populated settlements, the workshop exists as a safe haven — a place where women can walk to work, learn, and earn with dignity.

Our partnership with Women Fibre To Fashion began at its foundation. What started as a small collaboration has grown into a relationship built on trust, honesty, and shared purpose. Together, we’re creating consistent, meaningful work for women who are redefining what’s possible for themselves and their families.

THE WOMENS STORIES

Pooja, 25 — Senior Tailor Sampler

When Pooja first heard about Women Fibre To Fashion, she was exhausted.

Long bus rides, factory harassment, and endless production targets had stripped her work of joy. She took a chance and knocked on the door of the workshop across the road.

Inside, she found something different — patience, guidance, and respect.

“Here, I can make a whole garment, not just one piece of it. Master Ji teaches me new things every day. I feel proud when I see what I’ve made — it’s something beautiful that lasts.”

Today, Pooja’s craftsmanship is exceptional. She supports her family, gets more rest, and walks to work each morning with quiet pride.

Nisha, 26 — Senior Tailor Sampler

Nisha arrived at SEWA’s training program with no experience — just determination and a father who told her she could be anything she dreamed of.

Now, years later, she leads with confidence, mentoring others with the same grace that once guided her.

“My parents are proud of me. Even after marriage, I’ll keep working — that’s not something most girls here can say. This place has changed how my family sees what’s possible for women.”

Her sister, Neha, now works beside her — two women shaping their futures one stitch at a time.

Anakali, 46 — Finishing Specialist

For years, Anakali worked under the harsh lights of a fast-fashion factory, racing the clock and enduring constant pressure.

At Women Fibre To Fashion, she found gentleness again — and a community that understands the rhythm of real life.

“Here, I can breathe. If my children or in-laws need me, I can go. The women care for each other. There’s laughter, there’s calm. I feel like I belong.”

Her work now helps pay for her family’s medical needs, and sometimes her little boy joins her in the workshop — watched over by the “didi’s” she calls sisters.

Shabana, 23 — Trainee Tailor

Shabana’s story begins in unimaginable hardship. Trafficked at a young age, she was rescued and brought to a shelter home where she first learned about SEWA’s training program.

Through steady work, counselling, and the unwavering kindness of those around her, she began to heal.

“This place gave me a new start. The women are my family. When I come to work, I feel safe — and proud of what my hands can make.”

Now, Shabana greets each day with resilience — making tea for everyone, smiling easily, and finding joy in the simple act of creation.

A Shared Purpose

Each woman’s journey is different, but they’re bound by something larger than themselves — a shared belief that work can be both a livelihood and a lifeline.
Every stitch holds their strength. Every garment is a testament to what can grow when women are given the space to thrive.
