ON THE JOURNAL

women who inspire us: Gisele Azad

WORDS BY CAROLINE POINER (CO-FOUNDER OF CLOTH & CO.)

Women Who Inspire Us — Series Introduction

Women Who Inspire Us is a global journal series celebrating women from every walk of life whose stories reflect the values at the heart of Cloth & Co. These values include intentional living, quiet strength, ethical action, and a deep connection to nature, community and the world around us.

These are women who make an impact through presence rather than noise. Women who honour where they come from. Women who uplift others in ways both visible and invisible. Women who choose a slower and more thoughtful way of moving through the world, and in doing so remind us of what becomes possible when we live with purpose, compassion and integrity.

Their paths are all different, shaped by culture, place and lived experience, yet each one offers a unique perspective on how to live meaningfully in a fast moving world.

Through this series, we hope to share the beauty of their journeys, the wisdom they carry and the many ways they are helping shape a more conscious and connected future.

Women Who Inspire Us: Gisele Azad

There are women whose way of living quietly shifts something in us. For me, Gisele Azad is one of those women. Her story and her presence carry a kind of steady calm that feels very rare and very needed.

Gisele was born in Tehran and grew up in the Netherlands after her family fled Iran when she was young. Her upbringing gave her a unique perspective on belonging and identity, and she often speaks about the strength and wisdom she inherited from the women who shaped her life. One line of hers feels especially true.

“Everything I do comes from my roots.”

After years of city living, Gisele made the decision to move with her partner to a small house in the forest. This shift was not about stepping away but about moving toward something more real. Nature became part of her daily rhythm again and her reflections are grounded in that slower pace.

She says, “Nothing rushes here, yet everything grows.” This captures the beauty of the life she has created.

Her work spans writing, creative direction and thoughtful collaborations that explore identity, womanhood, heritage and simplicity. Whether through her pieces for Vogue Netherlands or the conversations she shares online, there is a consistent thread of presence and sincerity. She chooses fewer things but with intention. She honours the story behind something before it enters her life.

“I don’t want more things. I want fewer, but with meaning.”

These words resonate deeply with us. At Cloth & Co. we work closely with women artisans in India and build everything around purpose, natural fibres and the quiet dignity of handmaking. Gisele’s way of living feels naturally aligned with these values. She reminds us that a meaningful life does not need to be loud to be powerful.

“I don’t need to raise my voice to make a difference. Presence is powerful.”

We chose to feature Gisele as part of Women Who Inspire Us because her story offers something steady and reassuring. It shows how grounding it can be to live with intention, to honour where we come from and to let nature guide the rhythm of our days.

If you feel drawn to her perspective, her interviews and writing are worth exploring. Her reflections on identity, nature and slow living have a way of staying with you long after you read them.
