THE BEAUTY OF LINEN

Our linen scarves have been hand-loomed using European linen which is also one of the most sustainable fibre crops grown. Linen is one of the oldest fibres used in textiles and precedes chemical fertilisers and pesticides as well as synthetic fibres. Although thicker than cotton, due to its weave and the natural properties of the flax plant, linen fabric is naturally breathable, allowing air to flow between the fibres. This means wearing linen clothing keeps you cooler in warmer weather.

MAKING OUR HAND LOOMED LINEN SCARVES

Our gorgeous linen scarves play an important role in our mission to preserve the artisan crafts.

They have been hand loomed in a small village in Bhagalpur by a group of weavers supported by SEWA Shram Shakti Foundation providing the opportunity for the next generation to continue the family tradition of weaving through continuity of work. Weaving in these villages involves the whole family with the women doing the preparation of the yarn and finishing off the product and the men doing the weaving.

Linen yarn is inherently strong, which reduces the need for starching during spinning and weaving. We are currently providing ongoing work for 8 weavers, who have been employed specifically to produce our scarves and as we increase our orders, we will continue to provide opportunities for young weavers to learn these skills.
