Fair Trade Certified Explained

Fair Trade Certified Explained

The fashion supply chain has a high incidence of labour exploitation and toxic environmental conditions in producer countries. Child labour and low-wage conditions are common as brands seek the lowest-cost countries to produce in.

This way of producing goods has significant environmental and health impacts from high-pesticide use in conventional cotton fields, to water contamination from toxic dyes used in fabrics.

As the world is evolving we are seeing more regulation, media and action within fashion supply chains however we still have a long way to go!

Not only do we believe ethically-made clothing should be the standard in the apparel industry, we actively work towards the highest standards and consider the impact of our actions; from seed to stitch as we produce our clothing and accessories.

Certifications are an important aspect of our business at Cloth & Co. to ensure we are working in the best way possible for our people, planet and you our consumer. Our partners in India are Fair Trade, GOTs Certified and SA8000 in India.

As consumers, we are naturally persuaded by greenwashing. We believe with the right knowledge we can help guide your purchasing decisions into ones where ethical and environmental standards are impeccable and the wonderful person that made your garment is being looked after.

So, here are some key factors as to what exactly being Fair Trade Certified means.

1. All supply chain factors establish fair, reliable and predictable arrangements and commit to investing in the long term improvement of workers.

2. Living wages, the empowerment of workers and Occupational Health and Safety measures are upheld to a high value.

3.  Reducing the negative impacts on works by controlling chemical use and practices, ensuring materials and production are un-toxic and planet-friendly.

We hope this has helped you to understand more about our stitching unit and the Fair Trade Certification.

Organic cotton is a great example of our efforts to support ethically-made clothing. It supports biodiversity and soil health, uses rainwater more efficiently, eliminates GMOs and harmful chemicals from what we wear, and so much more.
